Science Center

The multimillion-dollar Kendade Hall is a state-of-the-art facility whose interconnected classrooms, faculty offices, and laboratories foster cross-disciplinary work. Outfitted with advanced scientific instrumentation, Kendade is the nexus of the Mount Holyoke College Science Center, connecting Carr and Clapp laboratories and Shattuck and Cleveland halls. Its striking 3,000-square-foot atrium is a popular spot for hanging out with friends or getting a bite to eat.

Starting as early as their first year, Mount Holyoke’s science students get practical experience with sophisticated equipment, such as:

  • scanning and transmission electron microscopes
  • custom-built Mössbauer spectrometer (what's a Mössbauer spectrometer?)
  • GeoProcessing Laboratory with GIS and remote sensing technologies
  • DNA sequencing equipment
  • complete video microscopy capabilities
  • NME spectrometers
  • atomic force microscope
