Frequently Asked Questions: the MHC International Internship Program (MHC-IIP)

Who is eligible to take part in the MHC IIP?  Sophomores and juniors can apply for MHC-IIP opportunities.  We encourage first-year students to attend one of our information sessions to learn more about our program and the application process.

How do I apply for an MHC-IIP opportunity? Students apply for MHC-IIP opportunities with the Universal Application Form.  Students are also required to meet with Jale Okay, Director of International Experiential Learning, for a pre-application meeting by February 20, 2009.  Please call the McCulloch Center at x2072 to schedule an appointment.

How long do the internships last? MHC-IIP internships last for a minimum of six weeks.  Some internships last as long as twelve weeks.

Do I need a visa and immunizations?  It is the responsibility of the student to determine if she needs a visa and/or immunizations for the country in which she will be interning.  Students who are U.S. citizens should check the U.S. State Department website to determine visa requirements.  Non-U.S. citizens should check their country's website for visa requirements.  Students should also consult the Center for Disease Control to get information about immunization requirements and recommendations for your host country.

What costs will funding cover? Funding awarded for MHC-IIP opportunites will include a travel allowance to your host country and funding for housing and living expenses.

How are students selected for the MHC IIP?   A committee of MHC faculty and McCulloch Center staff selects candidates based on how the internship fits into the student’s academic program and the student’s ability to be successful in the position (e.g., academic preparation, adaptability, initiative, maturity).

How can I learn more about MHC-IIP opportunities?  Attend one of the MHC-IIP information sessions scheduled this fall.  Check our website for dates, times, and location. Students are encouraged to visit the McCulloch Center lounge to read evaluations of past MHC-IIP interns.
