Jacqueline Paz-Cedillos ‘07
Oakland, California

Jacqueline Paz-Cedillos is a double major in Spanish and Latin American Studies who spent a year abroad in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico (Butler program).

One must be open-minded and flexible - Mexico is just like the United States. It has malls, supermarkets, movie theatres, basically the hold nine yards (what can I say, globalization). But it is also different - Mexico has its own history and cultural practices.

When: Junior year, 2005-2006.

Why did you choose to study abroad: Because I wanted to see what it was like to live in another country for a whole year. I also wanted to take courses about Latin America that Mount Holyoke doesn’t offer.

What language did you speak: Spanish, we actually had to take courses with other Mexican students, that is why I chose this program.

What did you study: Latin American History and Latin American Literature.

What next: I plan on graduating and finding a job in Mexico, my experience was that good.
