Grace June Kim ‘08

Bronx, NY

Grace Jun Kim is a double major in Psychology and French who spent a year abroad in Montpellier, France with the MHC program

I advanced as a human being in so many ways as I was living abroad: How to live independently in an apartment, negotiating culture shock, adapting to a new lifestyle, developing cultural intelligence, progressing significantly in French. I also learned that the world is a much smaller place nowadays and we need to be conscious of a growing global community.

When: junior year, 2006-2007

Why did you choose to study abroad:  To enrich my French education and also to experience life in college for one year out of the so-called MHC "bubble"..

What language did you speak:  French

What did you study: French grammar, phonetics, stylistics, translation, literature, linguistics.

What next: Whether or not I use French at my place of employment, I plan to maintain it by joining a French alliance organization.  At some point, I may also return to France to teach or conduct research.
