Amberle Fant ‘08 Madbury, New Hampshire
Amberle Fant is an International Relations major who spent
a semester abroad with DIS, Copenhagen, Denmark. I have learned to take
things as they come, live more in the moment and take advantage of all
opportunities. For example, the opportunity arose to speak at the American
Chamber of Commerce in Copenhagen, so I grabbed it and had the honor to speak
there., I realized that I really want to work and live abroad after graduation.
I like speaking and interacting with people from different cultures. I have a
lot to teach them and they have a lot to teach me.
When: Fall semester of junior year.
Why did you
choose to study abroad: I wanted to
experience learning in a different culture and see how it felt to be a minority
among other students – an American in a Danish environment. Denmark is a
non-English speaking country and the program attracted me because the model of
the classes really appealed to me: I could travel while taking classes through
study trips
What language did
you speak: All classes were in English,
but I took an optional Danish course.
What did you
study: Minorities and Immigration, International Law, Environmental Politics
and Policies, Danish, China across Cultural Exploration (course with a 2 week
trip to China)
What next: This
summer, I hope to do an internship abroad in China or Belgium. After
graduation, I want to teach English in China for a year, and then go back to
Denmark for a year, too. After that, graduate school.
