Mount Holyoke students may choose to study abroad with one of the College’s own programs and exchanges, or on one of the many other programs and universities that we approve for credit transfer.
- For our own programs, Mount Holyoke arranges courses, orientation, and housing, and provides a resident director or program coordinator on-site.
- For the exchanges, students enroll directly into the host university abroad, which coordinates all advising, orientation, and housing.
- Other programs (including affiliated programs) have been evaluated and approved on the basis of their academic content and its suitability for credit transfer to Mount Holyoke; Mount Holyoke is not responsible for coordinating or administering any of these programs.
Special application procedures and billing arrangements apply to many of our own and affiliated programs and exchanges. See Deadlines for details about how and when to apply; see Fees for MHC Programs and Exchanges for information about costs.

Approved Programs Mount Holyoke has approved a range of programs and universities for study abroad that complement our academic programs, enrich students' personal and intellectual development, and encourage students to challenge their assumptions about themselves and the world through meaningful interaction with different cultural contexts. With guidance from the MHC faculty, we have chosen programs that meet our expectations (academic and cultural) for study abroad, and in which we have confidence baed on our own evaluation and previous students' experience. Faculty and staff visit programs regularly to help us assess their suitability for Mount Holyoke students. Use the “Related Links” above to see the list of all programs that we coordinate or that we have approved for credit transfer.
Students who are applying for financial aid (Laurel Fellowships) should plan to apply for programs identified as “bolded” programs. Bolded programs are high quality programs that are competitively priced for their location.
We will consider petitions for programs not on our list only in exceptional circumstances, such as if you have a compelling reason to study in a country that is not represented here, or if you have a highly specialized major that cannot be accommodated by the programs currently on our list. Please consult with Joanne Picard, Dean of International Studies, for assistance in identifying approved programs that will meet your needs.
