You can leave a lasting legacy by naming a bequest to Mount Holyoke in your will. If you have already done so, please let us know so we can recognize your generosity with membership in the Mary Lyon Society.

You may include the College in your will by leaving a percentage of the estate, a specific dollar amount, or by naming Mount Holyoke College as the residual beneficiary. Estate taxes can be reduced by making a bequest.

Sandy Fulton Rosenthal '79
“People need to know how strongly I feel about Mount Holyoke,” Sandy notes. “My children naturally would be taken care of, but not necessarily Mount Holyoke; that had to be written down somewhere. The bequest is my opportunity to make my wishes known.”

Sample Bequest Language

Unrestricted Bequest*

"I give to THE TRUSTEES OF MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE in South Hadley, Massachusetts, ______ percentage of my estate (or the sum of $________) to be used for the benefit of Mount Holyoke College as the Trustees thereof may direct."

*Bequests may be named and endowed if meet the minimum requirement to establish an endowed fund. The current minimum is $100,000.00.

Bequest to Establish Life Income Gifts to Benefit an Heir

You can make a testamentary transfer of assets to establish a life income fund for your heirs. Your estate will receive a tax deduction for the value of the trust principal that ultimately will come to Mount Holyoke. If you are interested in this estate planning concept, please contact the Office of Gift Planning or call 800-MHC-GIVE.
