Student Health Insurance

Massachusetts state law requires all students in higher education to be a participant in a Massachusetts Qualified Health Insurance Plan. Please refer to the Student Health Insurance Plan (PDF) for regulations defining Qualified Health Insurance Plans, pay particular note of the information regarding comparable coverage.

Mount Holyoke College offers a Student Health Insurance Plan that exceeds the Qualifying Student Health Insurance Program (QSHIP) requirements and is designed to work in partnership with the College Health Services to provide: limited specialist consultation, ancillary testing, medication, inpatient and outpatient hospital services for primarily acute health conditions. If the student has pre-existing medical or mental health conditions, this plan may not be adequate to provide for the ongoing health care needs. Please read the MHC Student Health Plan Summary for the details of benefit coverage, exclusions, co-pays and referral procedures.

Annually all MHC students must determine the health insurance option that best meets their health care needs.

  • Student Health Insurance Plan (PDF) ( No waiver required, cost is $1,620 for full year and includes the Prepaid Health Center Option)
  • Prepaid Health Center Option (Must waive the Student Health Insurance Plan (QSHIP), cost is $220 per year)
  • Coverage exclusively by other health insurance plan that meets or exceeds QSHIP requirements within the MHC area. (Must waive both the Student Health Insurance Plan and the Prepaid Health Center Option.)
International students are required to participate in the Student Health Insurance Plan, unless they are covered by an Embassy Plan.
