UpdatesIt occurs to me that as I start fiddling with my web page more often, and as it grows monstrously large (4 MB last I checked, won't even try counting the files any more), I should have an updates page again. I'm obviously not going to document additions to my journal on this page, because that would be completely redundant; however, I'll document content, organization, and even non-noticeable code changes here, just in case anyone cares. Btw, don't expect links in non-current entries to work, because especially with organizational modifications, various pages have been switched around, and I can't be bothered to change all the links. Besides, it preserves historical credibility, or something. Um, yeah. Here goes. 16 July 2001Niceperson.org is online! Nothing but an under-construction page for the present, though. 13 July 2001A couple of months ago I wrote a FAQ for mhc.comp.questions, MHC's local computer help newsgroup, because I was sick of the same inane questions' cropping up all the time. I initially intended it to be a text document, but under the influence of suggestions, I made it a web page (which incidentally took me a couple of hours to code - though a lot longer to tweak of course). It was initially on my web space, but last weekend I got to move it to a no-name directory under the LITS/Networking pages. So now it's semi-official! Yay! Oh, and I also started writing a little page about Linux because I'm planning on installing it when I get my computer back, and it's a convenient and portable way to collect links. 18 June 2001I've added a couple of pages on books and music - nothing special, just lists of the books I have read (or want to read), and the CDs I own (or want to own). 18 May 2001As weblogs become more popular, I've linked to a couple of them that I read pretty regularly. Check 'em out, yo. 8 May 2001
I've gone through and changed *all* my pages at once, systematic little
changes that I've been trying to introduce gradually but that haven't really
been happening, so I decided to do them all at once (things like adding
language attributes to I have also fully converted my Emily page to CSS. Also, after a disturbing period in which the JavaScript in my drop-down menu caused my pages not to validate, I have finally fixed that problem. 3 May 2001I've been changing little things and forgetting to note them here (oops). My navigation has a hopefully-useful trick now; the little drop-down menu below the buttons has not only the pages linked by the buttons, but the pages linked from those sections. The intention is that people who know where they're going will be able to get there faster. In addition, in that menu there's a direct link to the current journal entry (actually it's a redirect). The other thing I've changed, or rather added to, is my AFP section; I have started putting up photos and things about the meets I have attended. Oh, and I shoved the older updates onto another page. They're still available, though, if you really want to read them. 12 April 2001
Since I've mostly succeeded in not obsessing over my web page for the last
couple of weeks, I've been fiddling gradually and not uploading most of the
changes. One of the changes is not mine, or rather it wasn't my fault; I
started putting a As my site gets more complicated, I've been thinking of ways to let people get from the main page directly to pages a couple of subdirectories in (such as my journal), especially if they already know where they're going. (Having recently and tiresomely navigated the innards of the Registrar, I know how annoying this is.) My solution, at least temporarily, is the box underneath the buttons on the left. Feedback welcome, of course. A smaller and less useful bit of JavaScript is my Random Link. I've been wanting to do this for a while, and a couple of days ago it occurred to me again, so I put it into practice. I've stuck it on both Fun and Links. Finally, I have a new page about my costumes, with lots of pictures.
