This page used to be at the beginning of my Interests page, because I find my friends interesting. Well, of course; uninteresting people are... well... uninteresting. Why would I want to be friends with them? So of course I have absolutely fascinating friends!
I decided that they are so fascinating, in and of themselves, that they deserve their very own page. So here it is, for your very own clicking enjoyment.
My family, by the way, is here.
I created a memorial page to my friend Emily, who died recently.
Please remember her, in your thoughts and, if you pray, your prayers.
First of all, there's 8 ' Flesh-eating Dragon (8'FED for short). He's a cool guy. I met him on alt.fan.pratchett in January of 1999, and we have been emailing each other more or less regularly for at least six months, I think, at this point. There's not much I can say about him, because it's all on his own web page.
By the way, he maintains that "He's a cool guy" is very high praise. Maybe he's teasing me, and I'm just totally missing the joke (which is not improbable), but I fail to see how this is a wonderful compliment. I am merely stating the truth as I see it. If nothing else, he's a cool guy because he's friends with me. :-)
The two of us have, however facetiously, founded an organization called the Freedom of Acceleration Movement on Earth (FAME), which, to date, has local branches in the United States (my homeland), Australia (8'FED's), the UK, Sweden, and Belgium. Rather than telling all here, I shall merely refer you to the page which 8'FED has put up.
Gareth is my AFPiance. That means that I thought his posts to alt.fan.pratchett were amusing and enjoyable, so I "proposed" to him (the traditional form is WYMM, will you marry me), and he accepted. Later on, during the summer, he acquired an AFParamour, but I'm not at all jealous. Really. :-) In any case, I shall follow in the footsteps of my AFPsisterwife (the relationship Jennie and I have chosen for each other) and let Gareth's own website do the talking.
And another fellow of the dragonish persuasion, Dragon Prince, has a web page too. I don't know how much of it is interesting to non-Pratchett fans, but you can take a poke around anyway.
My friend Caomhin also has a web page; it's actually dedicated to me. It's the link on my index page called "Fans"... The reason for that nomenclature is sort of a long story. To make it shorter, however, I shall merely say that shortly after Caomhin and I had started emailing each other regularly, he expressed admiration for my myriad good qualities, so somewhat facetiously I asked him to be my fan. He accepted in good faith, and a bit later he set up this web page in my honor.
Of course a good bit of the information is either slightly or completely wrong, but I myself for various reasons neglected to correct the errors (other than teasing Caomhin about them <g>). I was too lazy, I didn't want to pick it totally apart like the perfectionist I am, and I also thought it somewhat appropriate that a fan web page should have some misinformation in it! So look at it, enjoy it, but don't take it too seriously (sorry Caomhin!).
And then the one current real-life friend with a web page is Maggie. She is a first-year at Mount Holyoke and a good friend of mine. I don't always understand everything she says, but that's probably all for the best; I shouldn't get used to understanding things, anyway. Her web page will give you a good taste of her sense of humor and train of thought. It is quite under construction, as her first sentence quite frankly admits, so don't even bother trying the links, since they're all broken (though that word implies that they once did work <kof>). Don't worry, I'll tell you once she gets it up and running.
My friend Zach, whom I know from my year in France, doesn't have a personal web page, but he founded an a cappella group called Five Minutes of Fame, which does have a website. There's a bit about Zach there too.
My friend David used to have a web page, but for unexplained reasons, it's now down, so there's no point in putting a broken link up here. If he ever does get it back up again (which doesn't look like soon, actually, though you never know with him), I will put the link here. Eh well, I didn't like his web page, anyway; it had wobbly vibrating graphics that made my eyes hurt. Ick.
If there are any of you reading this (friends I know, presumably) who have web pages you would like me to link to, tell me so; I am amenable but may merely be a victim of faulty memory.
